When an automobile is ready to be dismantled, it is hauled to an automobile dismantler. The dismantler removes reusable parts from the car and ships them off to processing facilities. Then the vehicles are generally reduced to 3 streams of material, typically, non- ferrous metal (metal that isn't iron), steel and iron, and fluff materials (rubber, plastics, fabric, etc). The streams are then recycled or disposed off to other plants. For instance, steel and iron are sent to steel mills where they are turned into new steel.
