It\'s never too late to turn childhood dreams into a true global success

One of the most enjoyable aspects of writing these stories every week is the opportunity to meet and learn from some of Ireland\'s most inspiring entrepreneurs.
Few of these men and women have household names.
Many of their companies are not even recognized by the public, but their work has an impact on our daily lives and is usually important.
Some of these businesses are sub-businesses. suppliers.
This means that their products and services are not sold directly to the public, but constitute an important part of the production of other products.
These companies are like personal voices in the choir;
It was impossible to complete without them, but without them, the whole performance was impossible.
Prodieco is such a company.
Headquartered in Dublin, Prodieco specializes in manufacturing parts for blister packaging machines used by pharmaceutical companies around the world in tablet PCs and capsule packaging.
These blister packs are usually made of laminated materials or aluminum foil to help extend the shelf life of the tablets and provide protection against humidity, contamination and tampering.
Robin Rennicks, chairman of Prodieco, and his son Connor, director of operations at the company, gave me a series of sample tablets packaged in different blister packs, similar to samples from any pharmacy or convenience store
When he popped the tablet from a single cavity of the tablet, Robin explained how each blister package varies depending on the size, shape, number and nature of the particular product.
To get a better idea of what the company is doing, Robin and Connor took me for a walk in their highly automated manufacturing facility.
\"We manufacture dedicated format parts for up to 50 different types of flat-panel packaging machines,\" explains Connor . \".
\"The biggest challenge for us is that every product we produce is one-off --
\"Because of this, mass production has no potential for other businesses,\" he added . \".
About 97 of all the components produced by the company are exported to more than 50 different countries, including the UK, Germany, Italy, North America, Brazil and Russia.
Robin quickly acknowledged the support he received from Irish businesses, which he believed would help him enter these new territories.
The company\'s impressive customer list includes nine of the world\'s top 10 pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer, Novartis, Sanofi, Merck Sharp and Dohme, and Glaxo.
In addition, it provides products for world-leading generic manufacturers such as Mylan, Teva and Activis.
Connor and Robin continue our journey, explaining that process and precision are everything in their business given the complexity of the pharmaceutical industry.
Starting with the initial customer contact, the staff brings detailed technical specifications to the design department where professional design engineers create drawings, layouts, and 3D modeling for each tool;
Everyone understands the need to focus strictly on details.
Robin said: \"We actually work with microns, and before I asked, he explained:\" This is a unit of length, equal to one in a million.
\"Next, I met with the staff in the planning and programming department and their job was to make sure that all the work was properly arranged.
This ability to respond quickly to customer needs has now become one of the company\'s unique selling points.
In the field of production, CNC (or computer numerical control) machines are busy grinding, turning and cutting metal parts into different shapes and designs of different shapes and designs, which is a very complicated processing,
After completion, the part is taken to the assembly area where each part is tested, verified and quality-control-
Prior to being allowed to send to the customer, an inspection is carried out by a group of highly qualified test engineers.
Finally, we stop at the R & D department to continuously develop new products and services to ensure that the company remains a leader in this highly specialized industry.
When Robin and Maureen Rennicks took over the company in 1999, the company had been focusing on manufacturing precision mechanical parts for the IT department.
Robin and his team quickly realized that many of their IT customers are starting to move their manufacturing business to the Far East region with lower labor and operating costs.
Seeing this growing trend, they decided to shift the company\'s dependency from the IT department to focus on the fast-growing pharmaceutical sector.
\"At that time, we set ourselves an ambitious goal to be a global leader in blister packaging tools,\" explains Robin . \".
But making such a shift is not as easy as Robin originally thought.
\"It will take almost five years to fully realize this transformation.
During that time, we suffered a great failure.
In terms of turnover, it took us a long time to build it up again.
\"While this is a difficult experience, it is definitely the right decision in the long run,\" he insisted . \".
Robin Lennick grew up in Black Rock, Dublin.
After school, he got a job in a bank.
\"What I really want to do is work with a car or become a tool manufacturer.
However, my parents have different ideas.
\"They want me to get a permanent, pension-based job,\" Robin said . \".
For young Robin, however, working in a bank is not the most productive.
He often finds that he can only deliver mail to local businesses, but he feels less and less challenging.
He decided to move to London, where he worked in a different bank and later moved to the Middle East with that bank.
A home visit gave him the opportunity to work in Ireland, this time in the automotive industry.
Soon he started his tires again.
He will eventually sell the mold business in 1968.
When he finished the sale of the business, one of his suppliers suggested that he should look at the new products that are becoming more and more popular in the Far East;
The reflective logo.
These reflective signs are increasingly used in the manufacture of road signs, which are equipped with aluminum film and embedded glass beads, helping to greatly improve the visibility of road signs at night.
Robin immediately seized the opportunity and seized it shortly after setting up Rennicks logo manufacturing.
Over the next 30 years, he has developed the business to become one of the largest manufacturers of reflective road signs in Ireland and the UK.
The company employs more than 250 senior employees.
In 1999, at the age of 66, Robin sold his business on the idea of retirement.
But his retirement was short.
When he and his wife Maureen chose to buy Prodieco in the same year, he survived.
He is also very proud of his staff and he told me that they are very dedicated and professional in their work.
\"We have over 140 employees and while we have family members in the business, we think the company is a real team effort,\" Robin insisted . \".
\"In fact, in the last four years alone, we have recruited about 70 new employees, which creates a very good balance between continuity and innovation,\" Connor added . \".
\"We are committed to growing 20 from the mix of existing and new markets over the next three years,\" Connor explained . \".
The company has also developed exciting plans to design its own range of products to improve the efficiency of the customer\'s blister machine.
These new machine parts will pay special attention to how tablets are fed into the packaging machine and how to remove broken or broken tablets without causing damage or slowing down the packaging line.
After a day with Robin and Connor Rennick, it is clear that they have finally achieved their ambition to turn Prodieco into a global leader in the field.
Obviously, from the design center to production and testing to management and customer service at all levels, the company has successfully cultivated unparalleled attention to detail and excellence in everything it does.
While there have been a lot of comments recently on further development of manufacturing capacity in Ireland, it is an absolutely leading company.
Robin Rennix wanted to be a tool maker when he left school.
His parents wanted him to find a permanent, pension-based job that kept him away from his ideal career.
Until 1999, the 66-year-old sold his own signboard manufacturing company to retire, and finally realized his childhood ambitions.
Robin is a real source of inspiration.
He is also a living example of how it will never be too late to follow your dreams.
\"It\'s very important to know your customers.
Knowing their strengths and weaknesses can give you an idea of what they need to succeed in a competitive market and how you can help them in this effort.
\"If you want to succeed, you must persist and never --
End the improvement.
Not only in terms of products, but also in terms of your processes and your employees.
This is the only way to stay ahead.
\"Starting or developing a business requires incredible dedication, long time and thoughtful risks.
But with the right market, the right team, a lot of effort and a little bit of good luck, you can achieve the goals you set.
